Focusing on a Single Schema

Cutting the sidebar down to the one schema you are actually working in.

Most work tends to happen inside just one schema. Rather than seeing all schemas at all times, focusing the sidebar only displays the one schema you're interested in.

Focusing #

Ways to focus and unfocus from a schema:

Focus on a Schema

  1. Click the focus field.
  2. Right-click on a schema in the list and choose Focus on Schema.
  3. Double-click on a schema in the sidebar.

Unfocus from a Schema

  1. Click the focus field and choose Show All from the field.
  2. Click on the button in the focus field.

What Focus Changes #

  • The sidebar only shows the focused schema and objects inside it.
  • Filtering applies within the focused schema only.
  • Go To prefers results from the focused schema, so less typing is needed.

Focus is per tab, so one tab can be focused on a reporting schema while another shows the whole server.

Focusing Automatically on Connect #

You can have your saved connection automatically focus on a schema by setting the Database / Schema field in the connection settings.

That field also has an Exclusive mode, which constrains the the connected session so that it only ever sees that one schema — the focus field is hidden entirely, and the sidebar can never be switched to showing any other schema or object within any other schema.
