General Preferences

Where Screenflick shows up on your Mac, its keyboard shortcuts, and how it looks.

The General view of Screenflick's preferences controls where Screenflick appears on your Mac, the keyboard shortcuts for recording, and how Screenflick looks. To open Preferences, choose "Preferences…" from the Screenflick menu, or press Command-,.

Show Screenflick #

Screenflick can appear in a few places on your Mac. These checkboxes under "Show Screenflick:" control where:

Checkbox What it does
In the Dock Shows Screenflick's icon in the Dock while it's running.
In the menu bar Shows the Screenflick global menu on the right side of the menu bar. It has the recording controls and the audio levels, and it's red when recording.
In all Spaces Shows the Screenflick window in every Space, instead of just one.

Hiding Screenflick Completely #

If you turn off both "In the Dock" and "In the menu bar", Screenflick is hidden from the screen entirely. There's no icon in the Dock and nothing in the menu bar, and you use it with keyboard shortcuts. That's good for professionals who don't want Screenflick showing while they record or give a demonstration.

Since there's nothing to click on, Screenflick shows a message when you turn off the second one, telling you the keyboard shortcut you'll need to bring it back. Screenflick also has to be quit and relaunched to hide its Dock icon, and it offers to do that for you.

To bring back a hidden Screenflick

  1. Press the "Activate, Stop Recording" keyboard shortcut. It's Command-Shift-2 unless you've changed it. Screenflick comes to the front.
  2. Press Command-, to open Preferences. If the main window is showing, you can also click the button in its toolbar that opens Preferences.
  3. Turn "In the Dock" or "In the menu bar" back on.
